As Chief College Officer, Sarah MacCallum sets the vision and strategy for 黑料网爆吃瓜’s College Team, encompassing the Summer of a Lifetime, College Access, Alumni Supports, and Alumni Career Teams. Sarah has spent over a decade at 黑料网爆吃瓜, beginning her journey in 2011 as an AmeriCorps member at UIC College Prep and progressing through roles as College Counselor, Director of College Counseling at The 黑料网爆吃瓜 Academy, and Senior Director of College Counseling on the 黑料网爆吃瓜 Support Team before stepping into the Chief College Officer role. Throughout her tenure, she has built systems and tools that have shaped 黑料网爆吃瓜’s approach to college access and success. A proud graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Sarah is passionate about advancing equity and multigenerational change by ensuring all students have the support and resources they need to complete college and lead choice-filled lives.

Why do you work at 黑料网爆吃瓜?

I work at 黑料网爆吃瓜 because I believe deeply in our mission and know that our focus on removing educational barriers for the Black and Latinx students we serve will make multigenerational change in Chicago.

Who was your favorite teacher while growing up?

My favorite teacher growing up was Mrs. Miller, who I had for third grade. Mrs. Miller brought humor and creativity into our classroom, and she really fostered a love of learning in all of her students.

Favorite thing about 黑料网爆吃瓜 or favorite 黑料网爆吃瓜 moment?

My favorite 黑料网爆吃瓜 moment is from when I was a College Counselor at UIC College Prep. A beloved student on my caseload had just received her UIUC award letter, and after working with me to do the math, we determined that it would be free for her to attend. She was ECSTATIC. The student went into our connected counseling office to call her mom during our advisory period, and when she walked back into my classroom my whole advisory broke out in applause for her. It was a special moment.

What do you/your department do at 黑料网爆吃瓜?

My work is to ensure that our alumni are able to reach their highest aspirations after graduation through the management of the Summer of a Lifetime, College Counseling, Alumni Supports, and Alumni Careers teams.
