I hope you are staying safe and warm. I’m writing to provide clarity on the masking policy in our schools. As you may have seen, on Friday, the CDC updated its guidance on masking to recommend masking only in areas of high transmission, based on new key metrics. Additionally, Governor Pritzker and the Illinois State Board of Education followed this update late Friday with an end to the statewide mask mandate in schools.
We are currently evaluating this guidance, particularly as it relates to any requirements that might still exist within the Chicago Department of Public Health. For this reason and to minimize the disruption a last minute change would cause in our schools,?黑料网爆吃瓜 will continue to have a mask mandate in our schools on Monday, 2/28, and for the entire week. (Because of staff professional development, there is no school on Thursday or Friday.)
However, given these updates, along with the fact that the presence of COVID-19 has been dropping dramatically within our community,?黑料网爆吃瓜 may shift to adopt this CDC guidance, making masks recommended but optional, as early as March 7. In addition to the city as a whole having only a 1.3% testing positivity rate–the lowest since mid-July 2021, there were a total of only 3 positive cases last week for the entire 黑料网爆吃瓜 community of almost 14,000 staff and students. With our layered mitigation strategies such as optional SHIELD and BinaxNOW testing and air purifiers in classrooms and larger rooms, we can now consider relaxing some strategies, including potentially masking.
Before making this decision, we would like to hear from our community.?We will send an additional communication by the end of this week.
